500 words (well, 499): I feel as though my creative skills have developed well in the time between producing my college magazine and my movie trailer because there was an awful lot of trial and error with every project in between and I was able to find what worked for certain things and what didn’t. My IT skills have developed in a small way as they were quite high to start with but I have since learnt how to use programs I would not of previously such as photoshop and final cut pro. I also learnt how to work my way around a MAC computer which will be very useful for my future work. My production skills have developed massively now as I recently feel the need to structure my work much more and I know now which order is best to create my works depending on deadlines and what it is I am producing.
I spent a lot of time researching other media products as I went through my work. Looking at real professional works really helped me understand what my work should look like. I thought about how I could make my work similar to professional examples without copying them exactly so I was able to develop on real ideas. Researching also helped me workout where I was going to be challenging normal conventions too. When planning I was able to run through ideas much more quickly and work out how I really wanted my work to look without having to make a million and one drafts so I’m really glad I planned my work.
Having researched real film promotion packages I looked at the kind of things I could include in my own. I concentrated mainly on the idea of synergy between products, the synergy of colour, fonts, characters and themes mainly. The one which stood out the most to me was the synergy of colour mainly, I even synergised with the main characters costume. I chose purple and green as my colours to use continuously and they were the colours my protagonist wore, they were used in the trailer, poster and magazine cover too. I chose to do this because it stood out to me in the ‘Juno’ promotions package.
Technology is massively important in media production, firstly because media is often presented through technology such as online, on television, on the radio etc. So to produce something to presented in these ways it must be produced technologically. Also, for a media product to look professional and classy it helps to be made with state-of-the-art technologies. I found when producing my media products, my mock-ups were terrible in comparison to my final pieces which had been made through different computer programmes and using allsorts or cameras and other technological equipment. Modern media such as 3D and IMAX would be non-existent without technology as the state-of-the-art cameras are what make it so brilliant. In conclusion, technology is the base of media production as most media products wouldn’t exist without it.
